• Description: Thyroid Peroxidase(TPO) is a membrane-bound glycoprotein. TPO acts as an enzyme and plays acentral role in thyroid gland function. It functions in the iodination oftyrosine residues in thyroglobulin and phenoxy-ester formation between pairsof iodinated tyrosines to generate the thyroid hormones, Thyroxine andTriiodothyronine. Mutations in TPO are associated with several disorders ofthyroid hormonogenesis, including congenital hypothyroidism, congenitalgoiter, and thyroid hormone organification defect IIA.
