Description : CTSG, is a serine protease, and a member of thepeptidase S1 protein family, located in the azurophil granules of neutrophils.Studies have shown that CTSG when released from granulocytes binds to NKcells and augments NK cytotoxicity through its protease activity. CTSG has aspecificity similar to that of Chymotrypsin C, and may participate in thekilling and digestion of engulfed pathogens, and in connective tissueremodeling at sites of inflammation. Transcript variants utilizingalternative polyadenylation signals exist for this gene.
