Description : | Humanhyaluronidases (HYALs) are a group of five endoβ-N-acetyl-hexosaminidases thatinclude HYAL1, HYAL2, HYAL3, HYAL4, and SPAM1 (PH20). While HYAL1, HYAL2 andSPAM1 are endoβ-N-acetyl-glucosaminidase that are mainly active on hyaluronanwith little activity on chondroitin sulfate, HYAL4 is the only known endoβ-N-acetyl-galactosaminidasethat is mainly active on chondroitin sulfate (type C and D in particular)with no activity on hyaluronan. Hyaluronan and chondroitin sulfate areabundant extracellular matrix components that have numerous biologicalfunctions. |
