Description : TheFTO (fat mass and obesity-associated) gene is well conserved and found in a single copy in vertebrate species. It is suggested that the FTO protein plays a role in fat cell lipolysis, which may be important in explaining why theFTO gene (and FTO gene variants) is implicated in body weight regulation.
