Description : PARK7 or parkinson protein 7 belongs to the peptidase C56 family of proteins which acts as a positive regulator of androgen receptor-dependent transcription. PARK7 also functions as a redox-sensitive chaperone, as a sensor for oxidative stress, and it apparently protects neurons against oxidative stress and cell death. PARK7 mutations that impair transcriptional co-activator function can render dopaminergic neurons vulnerable to apoptosis and may contribute to the pathogenesis of Parkinson disease. PARK7 is an atypical peroxiredoxin-like peroxidase that scavenges hydrogen peroxide through oxidation of cys106.
