Description : Neurotrophin 4 (NT-4) is a novel neurotrophic factor, the neurotrophins, that control survival and differentiation of vertebrate neurons. Several aspects distinguish NT-4 from other members of the neurotrophin family. It is the most divergent member and, in contrast to the other neurotrophins, its expression is ubiquitous and appears to be less influenced by environmental signals. NT-4 seems to have the unique requirement of binding to the low-affinity neurotrophin receptor for efficient signalling and retrograde transport in neurons. NT-4 controls survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. It signals predominantly through the TrkB receptor tyrosine kinase. Both NT-4/5 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor may be physiological survival factors for facial motor neurons and may serve as therapeutic agents for motor neuron disease.
Molecular Weight : The predicted molecular weight of Recombinant Human NT-4 is Mr 14 kDa.
State Of Matter : Lyophilized.
Purity : >97% by SDS Page and analyzed by silver stain.
Endotoxin : <0.1 ng per 1 µg as determined by the LAL method.
nullValue_other : The biological activity of Human NT-4 was determined by its ability to stimulate proliferation of the TrkB-transfected cell line, BaF-TrkB-BD. The expected ED50 for this effect is typically 5 - 15 ng/mL.
Storage And Stability : This lyophilized protein is stable for six to twelve months when stored desiccated at -20°C to -70°C. After aseptic reconstitution, this protein may be stored at 2°C to 8°C for one month or at -20°C to -70°C in a manual defrost freezer. Avoid Repeated Freeze Thaw Cycles. See Product Insert for exact lot specific storage instructions.
