• Description: SERPINA3is an alpha globulin glycoprotein that is a member of the serine proteinaseinhibitor (serpin) family. It inhibits the activity of certain proteinases,such as cathepsin G that are found in neutrophils, and chymases found in mastcells. This activity protects some tissues, such as the lower respiratorytract, from damage caused by proteolytic enzymes. SERPINA3 is produced in theliver, and is an acute phase protein that is induced during inflammationfound at concentrations of 45 mg/100 ml. Clinically, it is elevated ininflammatory conditions, some malignancies, Crohn"s disease, ulcerativecolitis, and burn injuries.
