At least 14 mammalianLgals4, which share structural similarities in their carbohydrate recognitiondomains (CRD), have been identified. The Lgals4 have been classified into theprototype Lgals4, which contain one CRD and exist either as a monomer or anoncovalent homodimer; The chimera Lgals4 containing one CRD linked to anonlectin domain; and the tandem-repeat Lgals4 consisting of two CRDs joinedby a linker peptide.
