• Description: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor/vascular endothelial growth factor (PDGF/VEGF) family. The encoded protein promotes angiogenesis and endothelial cell growth, and can also affect the permeability of blood vessels. The proprotein is further cleaved into a fully processed form that can bind and activate VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3 receptors.
• Bio-activity: Measured in a cell proliferation assay using HMVEC human microvascular endothelial cells. The ED50 for this effect is 1-5 μg/mL. Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized Recombinant Human VEGF R3/Flt-4 Fc Chimera at 5 μg/mL (100 μL/well) can bind Recombinant Human VEGF-C with an apparent Kd <40 nM.
