• Description: Cytochrome c, or cyt c is a small heme protein found loosely associated with the inner membrane of the mitochondrion. It belongs to the cytochrome c family of proteins. Cytochrome c is a highly soluble protein, unlike other cytochromes, with a solubility of about 100g/L and is an essential component of the electron transport chain, where it carries one electron. It is capable of undergoing oxidation and reduction, but does not bind oxygen. It transfers electrons between Complexes III and IV.
• Purity: > 95% by SDS-PAGE. The protein was observed as a single band migrating at a molecular weight of about 12 KDa. The purity is also checked through the ratio A415 nm/A280 nm.
• Supplied As: 1.0 mg/ml in 20mM sodium phosphate pH 6.8, 1mM DTT. The concentration is calculated from the absorbance at 415nm (e415 = 122000M-1 cm-1).
• Characteristics: Under the above described conditions, to avoid precipitation or protein dimerization, the product can be concentrated to a maximum of 1mM.
• Storage: -20º C. The protein is stable at 4 ºC for at least 2 weeks and at 25 ºC for at least several hours. After initial defrost, aliquot product into individual tubes and refreeze at -20º C. Avoid repeated freeze/defrost cycles.
