• Description: Rabies lyssavirus (genus of the Rhabdoviridae family), formerly Rabies virus, is a neurotropic virus that causes rabies in humans and animals. Rabies virus is a rod- or bullet-shaped, single-stranded, negative-sense, unsegmented, enveloped RNA virus. The rabies genome encodes five proteins: nucleoprotein (N), phosphoprotein (P), matrix protein (M), glycoprotein (G) and polymerase (L).
