• Description: Interleukin 17-alpha (IL-17A) is a 14.54 kDa cytokine with 131 amino acid residues and is also referred to as CTLA-8. IL-17A is a proinflammatory cytokine mainly expressed in Th 17 cells, NK cells, and innate lymphoid cells (ILCs). After binding to the IL-17 receptor, IL-17A stimulates the production of IL-6, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and nitric oxide (NO) by activating NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. In addition, it also plays an essential role in against infection of extracellular bacteria and fungi by inducing epithelial cells to produce antimicrobial peptides.
