Description : | Phleum pratense (Common timothy) Phl p 1 is the major allergen from grass pollen. This glycoprotein is a group 1 allergen with a molecular mass of approximately 30 kDa. Phl p 1 contains the majority of group 1–specific IgE and T cell epitopes, and its homodimeric three-dimensional structure has been shown by x-ray crystallography. Phl p 1 is highly allergenic and can be used as a diagnostic marker to identify patients that are allergic to grass pollen due to its strong cross-reactivity with group 1 allergens from related grass species. |
