Description : The IFN-α proteins are produced by leukocytes. They are mainly involved in innate immune response against viral infection. They come in 14 subtypes that are called IFNA1, IFNA2, IFNA4, IFNA5, IFNA6, IFNA7, IFNA8, IFNA10, IFNA13, IFNA14, IFNA16, IFNA17, IFNA21. These genes for these IFN-α molecules are found together in a cluster on chromosome 9. IFN-α is also made synthetically as medication. Types are: Pegylated interferon alfa-2a ; Pegylated interferon alfa-2b.
Source : Escherichia Coli.
Concentration : 1 x 106 units/ml.
Buffer : Phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.1% bovine serum albumin (BSA).
Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis : One band, Mr 19,323; >95% purity.
Specific Activity : 4.3x106 u/mg.
Assay Used To Measure Bioactivity : Interferon was titrated with the use of the cytopathic effect inhibition assay as described. In this antiviral assays for interferon about 1 unit/ml of interferon is the quantity necessary to produce a cytopathic effect of 50%. The units are determined with respect to the international reference standard for mouse interferon alpha A/Beta (Mu- IFN-a/B) provided by the National Institutes of Health. Unit of activity measured on mouse L929 cells with encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV).
Shipping Temperature : Ice Packs.
Physical State Of Product During Shipping : Frozen.
Special Conditions/Comments : After receipt, this product should be kept at -70℃ or below for retention of full activity. When thawing the contents of the tube should be apportioned in separate tubes so that freezing and thawing is kept to a minimum. Use polypropylene pipette tips and tubes when diluting this interferon. Dilute only in buffers containing protein such as 0.1% bovine serum albumin (BSA).
