• Description: Endocrine cells of the lung. Under normal expression conditions, procalcitonin is immediately cleaved into three specific fragments, an N terminal residue, calcitonin and katacalcin. Levels of unprocessed procalcitonin rise significantly after bacterial infection, trauma or shock. Calcitonin causes a rapid but short-lived drop in the level of calcium and phosphate in blood by promoting the incorporation of these ions in bone.
• Form: Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in PBS (pH 7.4) with BSA as a carrier protein.
• Endotoxin: < 1.0 eu per μg of the protein as determined by the LAL method.
