Description : CAMK2A is an enzyme thatin humans is encoded by the CAMK2A gene. The product of this gene belongs tothe Serine/Threonine protein kinases family, and to the Ca2+/calmodulin-dependentprotein kinases subfamily. Calcium signaling is crucial for several aspectsof plasticity at glutamatergic synapses. This enzyme is composed of fourdifferent chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The alpha chain encoded bythis gene is required for hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) andspatial learning.
