• Description: Transferrin is the major iron transfer protein in plasma, providing iron needed for cellular internalization and cellular metabolism. It has been found that all cell growth is dependent on transferrin. Not only does the maintenance of normal cellular metabolism depend on iron in its biologically active form, but iron is also a cofactor for a number of enzymes, such as RNA polymerase and DNA synthase. It is also an important component of hemoglobin.

For hybridomas, adherent cells and suspension cell lines, the concentration of transferrin in the medium should be maintained at 0.5-100 μg/ml during cell culture, and the most appropriate concentration should be selected for each cell line. Transferrin lyophilized powder needs to be kept under refrigeration and redissolved before use.
