It is required for viability and forcorrect formation of cornified layers in the epidermis and hair follicles, asichq mice with a null mutation in the Cst6 gene have defects in epidermalcornification and die between 5 and 12 days of age. Cst6 expression andfunction may not be limited to cutaneous epithelia.
