Description : The protein encoded by this gene is an extracellular copper enzyme that initiates the crosslinking of collagens and elastin. The enzyme catalyzes oxidative deamination of the epsilon-amino group in certain lysine and hydroxylysine residues of collagens and lysine residues of elastin. In addition to crosslinking extracellular matrix proteins, the encoded protein may have a role in tumor suppression. Defects in this gene are a cause of autosomal recessive cutis laxa type I (CL type I). Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
Purity : > 80% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Bioactivity : With the Amplex Red assay as described by Palamakumbura and Trackman, Anal. Biochem. 300, 245-251 (2002), we are able to detect hydrogen peroxide generated by lysyl oxidase activity. However a significant percentage of the signal obtained was due to the presence of hydrogen peroxide generated by lysyl oxidase activity prior to the addition of the assay substrate. At this time, we cannot conclusively determine whether the protein is currently active, although the presence of hydrogen peroxide definitively demonstrates that the protein is or was active.
Concentration : > 50 ug/ml as determined by BCA.
