Description : Defensins (alpha and beta) are cationic peptides with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity that comprise an important arm of the innate immune system. The a-defensins are distinguished from the beta-defensins by the pairing of their three disulfide bonds. To date, four human beta-defensins have been identified; BD-1, BD-2, BD-3 and BD-4. beta-defensins are expressed on some leukocytes and at epithelial surfaces. In addition to their direct antimicrobial activities, they are chemoattractant towards immature dendritic cells and memory T cells.
Form : Supplied lyophilized with no additives. Reconstitute in 10 mM Acetic Acid to a concentration of 0.1 - 1.0 mg/ml.
Purity : >98% pure by SDS PAGE and HPLC
Sequence : Region of BD2 protein corresponding to amino acids GIGDPVTCLK SGAICHPVFC PRRYKQIGTC GLPGTKCCKK P.
Molecular Mass : 4.3 kDa
Applications : Numerous applications are possible with this product and should be tested by the end user under their own laboratory conditions
Endotoxin Levels : Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per ug (1 EU/ug).
Bioactivity : Determined by its ability to chemoattract immature human dendritic cells using a concentration of 10.0-100.0 ng/ml.
Storage : Store at 4 deg C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution aliquot and freeze at -20 deg C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
