Description : | alpha-2-Macroglobulin, also known as α2-macroglobulin and abbreviated as α2M and A2M, is a large plasma protein found in the blood. It is produced by the liver, and is a major component of the alpha-2 band in protein electrophoresis. |
Form : | Lyophilized from 0.02 M Tris, 0.13 M glycine, pH 8.0, and 0.08 M trehalose |
Bio-activity : | This product is a preparation of the intact protein with proteolytic inhibitory activity. One mg of protein will inhibit a minimum of 10 mg of trypsin with an activity of 10,000 BAEE units/mg protein. |
Molecular Mass : | mol wt ~720 kDa (four glycoprotein subunits) |
Purity : | ≥98% (SDS-PAGE) |
Applications : | Inhibits all classes of endoproteases by forming a complex with the protease. When the protease cleaves the macroglobulin sequence, the macroglobulin rearranges and traps the protease. |
Notes : | Plasma from each donor has been tested and found negative for antibody to HIV-1/HIV-2, antibody to HCV and HbSAg. |
Storage : | The lyophilized powder is stable for at least 2 years when stored at -20 °C. |
