Description : This gene encodes a nuclear protein, which is a tyrosine kinase belonging to the Ser/Thr family of protein kinases. This protein catalyzes the inhibitory tyrosine phosphorylation of CDC2/cyclin B kinase, and appears to coordinate the transition between DNA replication and mitosis by protecting the nucleus from cytoplasmically activated CDC2 kinase.

        Ask a question
How does WEE1 contribute to DNA damage response? 02/19/2023

It plays a role in DNA damage response by delaying cell cycle progression to allow DNA repair.

What is the impact of altered WEE1 activity on cancer development? 09/15/2022

Altered WEE1 activity is associated with the progression of various cancers.

What potential therapeutic applications arise from targeting WEE1 in cancer treatment? 02/11/2022

Targeting WEE1 in cancer therapy could exploit its role in cell cycle regulation to inhibit tumor growth.

How do genetic variations in WEE1 affect cell division? 10/07/2020

Genetic mutations in WEE1 can lead to uncontrolled cell division and genomic instability.

What role does WEE1 play in checkpoint regulation? 11/24/2018

WEE1 is critical in checkpoint regulation, ensuring cells do not divide with damaged DNA.

How does WEE1 interact with other cell cycle proteins? 04/08/2018

WEE1 works in conjunction with other cell cycle proteins to regulate the timing of cell division.

What is the primary role of WEE1 in cell cycle control? 06/22/2017

WEE1 is a kinase that inhibits cell cycle progression, particularly at the G2/M checkpoint.
