Description : | PDGFRB is a receptortyrosine kinase and has been implicated in atherogenesis and in celltransformation by the SIS oncogene. No special measures were taken toactivate this kinase. PDGFRB encodes a cell surface tyrosine kinase receptorfor members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growthfactors are mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The identity of thegrowth factor bound to a receptor monomer determines whether the functionalreceptor is a homodimer or a heterodimer, composed of both platelet-derivedgrowth factor receptor alpha and beta polypeptides. PDGFRB is flanked onchromosome 5 by the genes for granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulatingfactor and macrophage-colony stimulating factor receptor; all three genes maybe implicated in the 5-q syndrome. |
