ACSS3 localizes to the mitochondrion and catalyzes acetate and CoA into diphosphate and acetyl-CoA using the ATP. ACSS3 activates acetate for lipid synthesis use or for energy generation. Two isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
