Description : Alpha-1 Acid Glycoprotein (a1AG; AGP) is an Acute Phase protein. Reduced serum Alpha-1 Acid Glycoprotein levels are mainly associated with impaired liver function but can also occur in vitamin A deficiency and conditions in which protein is being lost from the blood. AGP increased level (in parallel to increases in haptoglobin) is suggestive of inflammation. a1AG levels rise before those of haptoglobin therefore this test can be useful in determining the chronology of inflammatory processes.
