Description : Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP, α-fetoprotein; also sometimes called alpha-1-fetoprotein or alpha-fetoglobulin) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the AFP gene. AFP is a major plasma protein produced by the yolk sac and the liver during fetal development that is thought to be the fetal form of serum albumin. The AFP gene is located on the q arm of chromosome 4 (4q25). AFP binds to copper, nickel, fatty acids and bilirubin and is found in monomeric, dimeric and trimeric forms.
Form : Liquid. The antigen is in 0.1M Sodium Phosphate buffer, 0.2M NaCl, pH 7.4, with 0.1% sodium azide as preservative.
Contaminants : None detected by reduced and non-reduced SDS-PAGE.
Purity : >98% By SDS PAGE
Concentration : 2.3 mg/ml
Biohazard : Raw material tested at the donor level by approved FDA methods and found to be negative for anti-HCV, anti-HIV-1 and 2, and HBsAg.
Storage : Store between 2-8°C. for short term. For long-term storage, aliquot and freeze at -20°C.
