• Description: Recombinant Human Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor-A is expressed at high levels in certain tumor-derived cells but is produced by a wide variety of cell types. In contrast to other factors mitogenic for endothelial cells such as FGF-1, FGF-2 and PDGF, VEGF is synthesized as a precursor containing a typical hydrophobic secretory signal sequence of 26 amino acids. Glycosylation is not required for efficient secretion of VEGF. rHu VEGF-121 produced in E. coli is a double, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain that contains 121 amino acids and has a molecular mass of 28.42 kDa.
• Form: The protein was lyophilized from a concentrated (1mg/mL) solution with no additives.
• Bio-activity: Determined by its ability to stimulate 3H-Thymidine incorporation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. The ED50 for this effect was found to be 2-6 ng/ml.
