• Description: Wnt-3a belongs to the Wnt family of signaling proteins and plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of embryonic and adult tissues. expressed primarily in the overlapping regions of the central nervous system (CNS), Wnt-3a underlies a variety of signaling, including embryogenesis, cell proliferation, CNS development, and cytoskeleton formation, among others, and, like other members of the Wnt family Wnt-3a contains a highly conserved lipid-modified cysteine-rich structural domain. Wnt-3a is a 44 kd secreted hydrophobic glycoprotein containing a conserved pattern of 24 cysteine residues. Wnt-3a has two N-bond glycosylation sites (Asn 87, Asn 298), and Ser 209 is modified by palmitoleic acid to glycosylate and acylate respectively, which are essential for the efficient secretion and biological activity of Wnt. Wnt-3a also promotes self-renewal of hematopoietic stem cells, neural stem cells and embryonic stem cells.
