Overview
This gene encodes a protein which is phosphorylated by insulin receptor tyrosine kinase. Mutations in this gene are associated with type II diabetes and susceptibility to insulin resistance. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009] -

Protein Function
IRS1 has several biochemical functions, for example, SH2 domain binding,insulin receptor binding,insulin-like growth factor receptor binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by IRS1 itself.
