SST
-
Official Full Name
somatostatin -
Overview
The cyclic tetradecapeptide somatostatin is widely distributed throughout the body and is an important regulator of endocrine and nervous system function. It exerts its biologic actions by binding to specific high affinity receptors on the cell surface. Somatostatin inhibits the release of somatotropin. Somatostatin has also been shown in sympathetic nerves, mucosal cells, myenteric nerves of the gastrointestinal tract, salivary glands and in some parafollicular cells of the thyroid. Somatostatin positive cells may also be present in medullary thyroid carcinomas, C cell hyperplasia, thymic and lung tumors and pulmonary small cell carcinomas. -

Involved Pathway
SST involved in several pathways and played different roles in them. We selected most pathways SST participated on our site, such as Class A/1 (Rhodopsin-like receptors),G alpha (i) signalling events,GPCR downstream signaling, which may be useful for your reference. Also, other proteins which involved in the same pathway with SST were listed below. Creative BioMart supplied nearly all the proteins listed, you can search them on our site.

Protein Function
SST has several biochemical functions, for example, hormone activity. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by SST itself. We selected most functions SST had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with SST. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

Interacting Protein
SST has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with SST here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of SST.
