PSEN1
-
Official Full Name
presenilin 1 -
Overview
Alzheimers disease (AD) patients with an inherited form of the disease carry mutations in the presenilin proteins (PSEN1; PSEN2) or in the amyloid precursor protein (APP). These disease-linked mutations result in increased production of the longer form of amyloid-beta (main component of amyloid deposits found in AD brains). Presenilins are postulated to regulate APP processing through their effects on gamma-secretase, an enzyme that cleaves APP. Also, it is thought that the presenilins are involved in the cleavage of the Notch receptor, such that they either directly regulate gamma-secretase activity or themselves are protease enzymes. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene, the full-length nature of only some have been determined. Protein Function
PSEN1 has several biochemical functions, for example, PDZ domain binding,aspartic-type endopeptidase activity,beta-catenin binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by PSEN1 itself. We selected most functions PSEN1 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with PSEN1. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

Interacting Protein
PSEN1 has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with PSEN1 here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of PSEN1.
