Overview
Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is a potent mitogen for vascular endothelial cells. It significantly influences vascular permeability and is a strong angiogenic protein. VEGF probably also plays a role in neovasularization under physiological conditions. A potent synergism between VEGF and bFGF in the induction of angiogenesis has been observed. Due to its influences on vascular permeability, VEGF may be involved in altering blood-brain-barrier functions under normal and pathological conditions. -
