GAD1
-
Official Full Name
glutamate decarboxylase 1 (brain, 67kDa) -
Overview
Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD) catalyzes the conversion of L-glutamate to gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, and a putative paracrine signal molecule in pancreatic islets. GAD67 is a cytoplasmic protein and is encodes on chromosome 2. -

Protein Function
GAD1 has several biochemical functions, for example, glutamate decarboxylase activity, protein binding, pyridoxal phosphate binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by GAD1 itself. We selected most functions GAD1 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with GAD1. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
