FECH
-
Official Full Name
ferrochelatase -
Overview
The protein encoded by this gene is localized to the mitochondrion, where it catalyzes the insertion of the ferrous;form of iron into protoporphyrin IX in the heme synthesis pathway. Mutations in this gene are associated with;erythropoietic protoporphyria. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. A;pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 3. -

Involved Pathway
FECH involved in several pathways and played different roles in them. We selected most pathways FECH participated on our site, such as Porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism,Metabolic pathways, which may be useful for your reference. Also, other proteins which involved in the same pathway with FECH were listed below. Creative BioMart supplied nearly all the proteins listed, you can search them on our site.

Protein Function
FECH has several biochemical functions, for example, 2 iron, 2 sulfur cluster binding, ferrochelatase activity, ferrous iron binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by FECH itself. We selected most functions FECH had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with FECH. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
