This gene encodes a protein thought to be involved in cholesterol and phospholipid metabolism. Mutations in this gene are associated with Schnyder crystalline corneal dystrophy. -

UBIAD1 has several biochemical functions, for example, (S)-2,3-di-O-geranylgeranylglyceryl phosphate synthase activity,1,4-dihydroxy-2-naphthoate octaprenyltransferase activity,4-hydroxybenzoate octaprenyltransferase activity.
