RASD2
-
Official Full Name
RASD family, member 2 -
Overview
Ras family proteins are molecular switches,Which are mediated by extracellular signals and regulate intracellular signaling pathways, thereby controlling a plethora of biological functions such as cell growth, gene transcription, mRNA stability and translation, cytoskeleton organization, peptide trafficking and secrection. Ras proteins are also involved in synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory in the central nervous system. As a member of the RASD subfamily of the Ras-related GTP-binding protein superfamily, Rhes is predominantly expressed in the striatal region of the brain,Where it reported to influence brain development and function. It is thought that the activation and expression of the Rhes gene is mediated by thyroid hormones in the brain. In humans, a lack of such hormones is known to cause cretinism. Additionally, Rhes -/- knockout mice display marked behavioral abnormalities, a gender-dependent increase in anxiety levels, and a clear deficit in motor coordination. -
