MMP15
-
Official Full Name
matrix metallopeptidase 15 (membrane-inserted) -
Overview
Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMPs are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. However, the protein encoded by this gene is a member of the membrane-type MMP (MT-MMP) subfamily; each member of this subfamily contains a potential transmembrane domain suggesting that these proteins are expressed at the cell surface rather than secreted. Protein Function
MMP15 has several biochemical functions, for example, calcium ion binding, enzyme activator activity, metalloendopeptidase activity. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by MMP15 itself. We selected most functions MMP15 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with MMP15. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
