CRAT

  • Official Full Name

    carnitine O-acetyltransferase
  • Overview

This gene encodes carnitine acetyltransferase (CRAT), which is a key enzyme in the metabolic pathway in mitochondria, peroxisomes and endoplasmic reticulum. CRAT catalyzes the reversible transfer of acyl groups from an acyl-CoA thioester to carnitine and regulates the ratio of acylCoA/CoA in the subcellular compartments. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants; additional transcript variants have been described, but their biological validity has not been determined.
  • Synonyms

    CRAT;carnitine O-acetyltransferase;carnitine acetyltransferase;CAT1;Carnitine acetylase;Carnitine O acetyltransferase;CAT

    Protein Function

CRAT has several biochemical functions, for example, carnitine O-acetyltransferase activity, receptor binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by CRAT itself. We selected most functions CRAT had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with CRAT. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
