Scientific Background: | c-Myc is a sequence specific DNA binding transcription factor that regulates gene expression, especially genes involved in cell division. Myc family members contain a basic Helix-Loop-Helix leucine zipper (bHLHZ) domain. Myc family proteins associated with thousands of genes, especially those involved in cell growth and proliferation. Myc serves as an integrator of signal transduction, linking extracellular signals to an acute cellular growth response. Mutations and overexpression of c-Myc are associated with cell proliferation and cancer. |
