Scientific Background: | SMARCA4 is a member of the SWI/SNF family of proteins that have helicase and ATPase activities and are believed to regulate transcription of certain genes by changing the chromatin structure around those genes. SMARCA4 can bind BRCA1 and can regulate the expression CD44, a tumorigenic protein. Abnormalities in this gene are associated with rhabdoid tumor predisposition syndrome type 2. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist for this gene. |
