• Description: Aggrecanases are glutamyl-specific multidomain metalloproteinases of the ADAMTS (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs) family. They hydrolyze aggrecan, the major proteoglycan of articular cartilage, causing osteoarthritis and other joint diseases. ADAMTS-1 has also been shown to cleave versican, which is the principal large proteoglycan expressed in mid-tendon.
• Activity: Activity (mU/mg) is specified on the vial.
• Unit Definition: One milliunit of protease hydrolyzes 1 nanomole of aggrecan interglobular domain substrate per minute at pH 7.5 at 37°C.
